2014 Dodge Dart Review!!

The 2014 Dodge Dart is a five-passenger compact sedan available in five trim levels: SE, SXT, Aero, GT and Limited.

The base SE comes sparsely equipped with 16-inch steel wheels, power windows, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a height-adjustable front seats, cloth upholstery, a folding rear seat and a four-speaker sound system with a CD player and an auxiliary audio jack. The optional Convenience Group adds underbody aerodynamic enhancements, active grille shutters, body-color door handles, power mirrors and locks, keyless entry, cruise control, air-conditioning, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and a USB port. The SXT gets most of the Convenience Group equipment as standard (the USB port is not included), and then adds 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, upgraded cloth upholstery and a six-speaker sound system. The SXT is eligible for several options packages. The Uconnect Touchscreen Group adds an upgraded instrument panel, an 8.4-inch touchscreen media center, satellite radio, an upgraded nine-speaker Alpine stereo, a rearview camera and a USB port. The Sun/Sound Group adds the same equipment as the Touchscreen Group along with a power sunroof. The Rallye Appearance Group adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a sportier tune for the suspension, a black grille, dual exhaust tips, an upgraded cloth interior with accent stitching and a leather-wrapped shift. The fuel economy-themed Aero has all the SXT’s standard equipment, along with low-rolling-resistance tires (16-inch), the upgraded instrument panel, 8.4-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera, leather-wrapped steering wheel, USB port and satellite radio. The Dart GT has all the Aero’s standard content and also comes with 18-inch wheels, leather upholstery, a six-way power driver seat, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control and ambient interior lighting. A version of the Sun/Sound Group with just the sunroof and Alpine audio system is optional on the GT.

The Dart Limited has all the GT’s equipment but reverts to 17-inch wheels and the Rallye package’s suspension tune. It also comes with a sunroof, a navigation system, perforated leather upholstery and chrome exterior trim. The Alpine stereo is a stand-alone option. Both the Limited and GT can be equipped with the Technology Group, which adds xenon headlights with automatic high-beam control, keyless ignition, automatic wipers, rear parking sensors, a blind-spot warning system and a rear cross-traffic alert system. The Limited’s navigation system is optional on the SXT, Aero and GT.

Powertrains and Performance

Three engines are available for the 2014 Dodge Dart. The base SE model comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 160 hp. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, and a six-speed automatic is optional. In Edmunds performance testing, a manual-shift Dart with the 2.0 engine accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 9.9 seconds, a slow time for a compact sedan in this price range. The EPA rates the manual version at (25 city/36 highway), while the automatic rates (24 city/34 highway).

Standard on the Aero is a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 160 hp. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, and a six-speed automated manual is optional. In Edmunds testing, a Dart with the turbo engine and manual transmission hit 60 mph in 8.3 seconds, a good time for this class. The automated manual transmission added only 0.3 second to that time. EPA-estimated fuel economy is (28/41) with the conventional manual and (28/40) with the automated manual.

Standard on the SXT, GT and Limited is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 184 hp. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on the SXT and GT, while a six-speed automatic transmission is optional on these trims and standard on the Limited. EPA estimates for the SXT and Limited are 27 mpg combined (22 city/35 highway) with the manual; the automatic is the same but has a 23 mpg city rating. Ratings for the Dart GT are 27 combined (23/33) for the manual and 26 combined (22/31) for the automatic.

Dodge Durango Review

So after research several different sites, I have thrown together another review. This time its the Dodge Durango 2013-present.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2014 Dodge Durango large crossover SUV is available in four trim levels: SXT, Limited, R/T and Citadel. You’ll also come across Durangos with Rallye badging; the Rallye is an equipment package on the SXT. Seven-passenger seating is standard across the board; optional second-row captain’s chairs reduce capacity to six. Standard equipment on the SXT includes 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, foglights, roof rails, heated sideview mirrors, full power accessories, cruise control, tri-zone automatic climate control (includes separate rear air-conditioning), a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, cloth upholstery, a fold-flat front passenger seat, a 60/40-split-folding and reclining second-row seat, a 50/50-split-folding third-row seat, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and a six-speaker sound system with a 5-inch touchscreen display and USB and auxiliary inputs. Several option packages are available on the Durango SXT. front angled viewThe Popular Equipment Group adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a rearview camera, rear parking sensors and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The Rallye package adds 20-inch wheels, polished exhaust tips and additional body-color exterior trim while deleting the roof rails. The Limited has most of the above equipment as standard but reverts to 18-inch wheels. It also comes with a remote ignition, leather upholstery, driver memory settings, a six-way power passenger seat, a 115-volt power outlet and an 8.4-inch touchscreen display with an upgraded version of Dodge’s Uconnect system. The latter includes voice control, text-to-speech messaging capability, emergency roadside assistance, streaming Internet radio  and 3G Wi-Fi capability. The larger touchscreen and related features are optional on the SXT. The R/T essentially includes the upgrades of the Limited along with a V8 engine, 20-inch alloy wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, xenon headlights, body-color accents, a power liftgate and an upgraded nine-speaker sound system! The Citadel reverts to a less aggressive suspension tune and a standard V6 engine, but otherwise builds on the R/T’s equipment list, adding automatic high-beam control, automatic wipers, a sunroof, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, an eight-way power front-passenger seat, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a navigation system with traffic updates and a Yelp-based search engine. All these amenities are optional on the R/T. Optional on both the R/T and Citadel is the Technology Group, which includes adaptive cruise control, a forward collision warning/mitigation system and a blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alerts. Also available on these trims is a rear-seat Blu-ray/DVD entertainment system with dual video screens and an HDMI input.

Powertrains and Performance

The 2014 Dodge Durango is offered with either a V6 or V8 engine. While the SXT only comes with the V6 and the R/T only comes with the V8, the Limited and Citadel trims can be equipped with either one. Depending on the model, rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive is available. The light-duty AWD system is only available with the V6 engine. The on-demand 4WD system features dual-range gearing (which makes it more capable on rugged terrain) and is standard with the V8 engine. All models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 3.6-liter V6 engine is rated at 290 horsepower (295 hp with the Rallye package). The EPA’s estimated fuel economy is (18 mpg city/25 mpg highway) with rear-wheel drive and (17 city/24 highway) with all-wheel drive. The 5.7-liter V8 is good for 360. Rear-drive models are rated at (14 city/23 highway), while AWD versions are rated at (14 city/22 highway). Properly equipped, a V8 Durango can tow up to 7,400 pounds, while the V6 version tops out at 6,200 pounds — in either case, far more than most rival crossover SUVs can tow.

Safety

Antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, trailer sway control, front side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags are standard on every 2014 Dodge Durango. A rearview camera and parking sensors are optional on the SXT and standard on all other Durangos. Models with Uconnect Access (included with the 8.4-inch touchscreen) have an emergency telematics system that connects you with 911 operators at the touch of a button and provides stolen vehicle tracking. Optional on the Limited, Citadel and R/T is a blind-spot monitoring system with cross-traffic alerts. Note that the available Technology Group available on R/T and Citadel models now includes a more advanced forward collision warning and mitigation system that automatically applies the brakes in potential collision situations. In government tests, the Durango received five out of five stars for side-impact protection.

Interior Design and Special Features

Modern and functional, the 2014 Dodge Durango’s cabin has been designed with families in mind. Regardless of trim level, the design is attractive and features upscale materials. With this latest update to the Durango, materials quality is now class-leading, and the cabin has an uncommonly elegant feel for this class. The gauges look better, too, with crisp graphics and a useful trip computer display. The front seats are roomy and comfortable. The Durango’s easily accessed third row offers a surprising amount of leg- and headroom (even for 6-footers). With the second- and third-row seats folded down, the Durango can carry up to 84.5 cubic feet of cargo.

Driving Impressions

Steering is responsive and the Durango is easy to maneuver on almost any road. On a long interstate cruise, it provides a quiet and relaxed cabin environment. Midrange acceleration is adequate for passing and merging, and there’s a noticeable improvement in responsiveness with the new eight-speed automatic transmission. As expected, the V8 offers brisk all-around performance and a satisfyingly deep exhaust note on acceleration.

Review of the 2014 Ram 1500!!

The Ram 1500 pickup gets even better for 2014. On top of the handful of updates this year is a new turbo-diesel V6 engine. Ram will also continue to offer its 5.7-liter V8 engine as an optional upgrade over the base gasoline V6 engine. The torque ratings are very similar between the diesel engine and the gas V8, but the V8 has slightly higher towing capacities (depending on the cab/bed configuration you choose), and it’s actually a less expensive upgrade than the diesel.

STYLES. The 2014 Ram 1500 is a full-size pickup available in multiple body styles. The regular cab seats three and is available with either a 6’4″ or 8′ cargo bed. The extended cab (“Quad Cab”) can seat up to six and comes only with the 6’4″ bed. The crew cab increases rear-seat legroom, and is available with either a 5’7″ or 6’4″ bed. There are six main trim levels: Tradesman, HFE, SLT, Sport, Laramie and Longhorn. The Laramie trim level (available in extended and crew cabs only) comes standard with virtually all of the Sport’s features, with a few differences (such as chrome bumpers/grille and a front bench seat), along with added luxuries such as heated mirrors, driver memory functions, leather front seats, a six-way power passenger seat, wood-grain/chrome interior trim and an upgraded sound system with a subwoofer. The Longhorn (which is crew cab only) adds a mesh grille insert, the spray-in bedliner, tow hooks, a larger fuel tank, a remote start, front/rear parking sensors, HD radio, and a navigation system with traffic updates and a Yelp-based search engine. The Limited package adds some awesome features: air suspension, monochromatic paint, chrome side-step bars, automatic windshield wipers, automatic high beams, keyless ignition/entry, a leather and wood steering wheel, upgraded leather upholstery, ventilated front seats and heated rear seats.

PERFORMANCE. Standard on the Tradesman, HFE and SLT is a 3.6-liter gasoline V6 engine, generating 305 horsepower. The V6 is matched to a standard eight-speed automatic transmission. Rather than a traditional shift lever, the eight-speed is controlled by a rotary “e-shift” knob on the instrument panel, which frees up storage space in the Rams with center consoles. Two-wheel or four-wheel drive is available. Standard on the higher trims (and optional on all other Rams) is a 5.7-liter V8 with 395 hp. The V8 is matched to one of two automatic transmissions, a six- or an eight-speed. The six-speed is used only on the Tradesman. EPA-estimated fuel economy when equipped with 2WD and the six-speed transmission is (14 city/20 highway) and (13 city/19 highway) with 4WD. With the eight-speed automatic, EPA-estimated fuel economy improves to (15 city/22 highway) with 2WD and (15 city/21 highway) with 4WD.

INTERIOR. The Ram 1500’s cabin is as good as it gets in the pickup segment. Even the lower trim levels boast an attractive design, with quality materials and intuitive controls that are reasonably easy to reach, while the luxurious Laramie’s wood-grain trim and leather upholstery is predictably posh. Truck owners might be thrown off at first by the rotary shift knob on the dashboard (which replaces a conventional shift lever), but it frees up useful space in the front seat, especially in Rams with a center console. The front seats themselves are soft, yet strike an adequate balance between support and comfort. The crew cab’s rear seat is very comfortable, offering loads of legroom and an agreeable seatback angle. Two touchscreen interfaces are available (one 5 inches, the other 8.4 inches) that do a great job of controlling simple and complicated tasks. The touch buttons are large and easy to see at a glance, while physical knobs and buttons provide much appreciated redundant control. Updates to the touchscreen system have made it even easier to use and more visually pleasing than previous models. Other modern convenience features include keyless entry/ignition, adjustable pedals, Bluetooth, voice recognition, smartphone app connectivity and even WiFi hotspot capability. Unique to the Ram 1500 is the optional RamBox feature, which places a pair of lockable compartments over the rear fenders inside the truck bed. With the right equipment levels, these compartments can even be locked and unlocked via remote.
